New Years Resolutions for a Healthier Smile

Each day you place acids, sugars, fructose, and a virtual cornucopia of other ingredients in it in the form of food and drink. Every day is a potential “perfect storm” for the development of gum disease, cavities, stains and other dental problems.

To stay ahead of the curve, Dr. Pyle encourages you to take advantage of the following dental advice :

Start with the basics . Get a complete examination to establish a base line. This will include an examination of teeth and gums, diagnostic x-ray (digital), screening for oral cancer, cleaning to remove tartar and plaque, and polishing to remove plaque and stains.

Restore teeth . If you have damaged or missing teeth, now is the time to restore them. Your teeth are interrelated. If one is damaged, it weakens the entire structure. Veneers, crowns, filling cavities and implants can reinforce the structure.

Avoid gum disease . Brush twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste. Floss daily to remove small bits of food. The ADA recommends you get a new toothbrush every 3 or 4 months. Don’t smoke or chew tobacco products.

Whitening treatment . Finally, there are a variety of whitening treatments available. Dr. Pyle will be happy to review the treatments and make a recommendation. White, polished teeth will make you feel so great!
